EVERWHERE Project
Everywhereis a consortium of 17 partners from 8 European countries including:Italy, France, Poland, Cyprus, Slovenia, Hungary, Spain and the UnitedKindom. Coordinated by the University of Brighton, Everywhere partnersare all involved in public health/health promotion work. Consortiummembers include public health organisations, academic institutions,NGOs active in HIV issues, and organisations that unite gay businessowners.
The Everywhere Project aims to develop and validate aninnovative and culturally adapted European model of HIV preventiontargeting Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) for use in cities acrossEurope. It will do this, in part, by creating a network of socialmediators to encourage businesses to become more socially responsiblein the prevention of HIV. The Terrence Higgins Trust leads on thisaspect of the work in collaboration with project partners.
140businesses including gay dating websites, hotels, travel agents and sexvenues will be approached and a minimum of 30 will be awarded theEverywhere Seal of Social Responsibility for their efforts in HIV/AIDSprevention. Developed by Syndicate National Des Enterprises Gaies(SNEG) in France in collaboration with project partners, this seal willbe a visible recognition of quality and allow MSM to identify thosebusinesses that are socially responsible in HIV prevention whereverthey travel in Europe
Specific aims of Everywhere are to:
Joinforces with businesses from environments associated with MSM tourismand entertainment in Europe (sex venues, hotels, travel agencies, andgay dating websites) to put information and preventive materials inclients hands in settings where sex between men is practiced;
Createand train a network of social mediators to identify, access, andachieve the commitment of business sector in the prevention of HIV inMSM;
Define action protocols for business owners (whose clienteleare mainly MSM), the adoption of which will certify the business asbeing socially responsible venues in the fight against HIV;
Validatethe Everywhere Model by piloting the action for five months. This willinclude social mediators accessing businesses, disseminating HIVprevention information and materials, and awarding the SR-HIV seal ofcertification for up to 30 businesses;
Publish the validated Everywhere model and disseminate the results of the project widely.
